What is Reflexology
Reflexology is a special type of foot massage. Pressure techniques are applied to specific points on the foot which relate to parts of the body. This in turn may help the body remove blockages and achieve a healthy balance.
It was introduced to the west as ‘zone therapy’ which means that each part (or zone) of the foot is mirrored in a part of the body. When the foot is stimulated in specific areas it may help problems in the corresponding part of the body.
Reflexology is a complimentary therapy and it is a great stress reliever helping you to feel revitalised and energised.
What does a session involve?
Before your treatment, the practitioner will have a chat with you to determine the best course of action for you. You can say if you have any particular areas of concern and those can then be targeted during your treatment.
In a similar way to a massage the practitioner will then use their hands to apply pressure to the feet stimulating the reflex points on your feet. Sometimes the reflexologist will be able to feel imbalance in the feet and can work on these areas accordingly.
As this is a gentle, non-invasive treatment it is suitable for everybody including the elderly and children.
How may Reflexology help me?
Like many forms of massage, Reflexology will help you feel relaxed and help to reduce stress. It very much encourages the body to restore balance and help to heal itself.
Specific conditions that it may be very helpful for are; arthritis, asthma, headaches and anxiety. It can also help during pregnancy with problems such as morning sickness and backaches.
