What is Sports Massage?

Sports and Remedial massage are deep treatment massages aiming to restore and maintain the muscles and soft tissues of the body. This can be a vigorous treatment as the therapist works to loosen tight muscles and improve tone. Muscular pain is very common and is often the source of headaches, lower back problems and stiffness. This treatment can help as the soft tissues respond well to massage.

What does a treatment involve?

The therapist will have a chat with you and ask you questions about your lifestyle and general health. You will also discuss any particular concerns and/or specific injuries. Depending on the areas to be worked upon you will either lie or sit down and your massage will begin. A number of techniques will be applied and some may be more forceful than others as the muscles are loosened.

What can it treat?

You don’t have to be sporty to benefit from this treatment. Long hours sitting at a desk or driving can cause stiffness and pain especially in the shoulders, neck and back. A session can help to ease tension, improve circulation and increase well-being. Our therapist has extensive knowledge of how the muscles function, so it can be highly beneficial if you have suffered from a sporting injury or are a sportsperson hoping to maintain good physical shape. A session can enhance performance and help to prevent any new injuries by keeping muscles flexible and the body agile. It is also a great treatment for RSI, headaches and stress-related conditions. Treatment is not appropriate for all conditions and we would not recommend this therapy for all. Contraindications include varicose veins, bone injury, cancer and deep vein thrombosis.
