Massage - Aromatherapy
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy literally means a treatment using scents. It has been around for thousands of years and Hippocrates is said to have been a fan! It is perhaps the most popular complementary therapy and as such is often seen working alongside traditional medicine in hospitals and care homes. Essential oils are used for treatment, each one having different healing properties. The oils are derived from plants/flowers/fruits and are always 100% natural. The oils can then be inhaled, or a few drops added to a bath or perhaps most commonly used during massage.
What does a treatment involve?
Your Aromatherapist will ask you some questions about your general health and well-being in order to decide which oils will be right for you. Your chosen essential oils will be blended with a base or carrier oil so that they are safe to use on the skin. The process of massaging the oils works on many levels, you have the beneficial effects of a massage whilst the therapeutic essential oils do their work and are absorbed by the body. The oils can also stimulate the sense of smell which can aid relaxation or perk you up accordingly.
What can it treat?
Aromatherapy is a most enjoyable treatment. Most experience a sense of well-being and it can be very comforting and reassuring. In this way it is a good stress buster and can help restore balance in body and mind. Each oil has its own healing properties; eucalyptus for example is good for when you are run-down, or have a cold and lavender is very calming and relaxing, which in medical trials has even been known to lower blood pressure. It is also a safe treatment suitable for all ages, helping to enhance the quality of your life.
