What is McTimoney Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a straight forward method of adjustment to establish correct alignment of the spine thereby ensuring that the body's nervous system works effectively. In treating the cause, not just the symptoms, Chiropractic care can relieve pain, increase mobility andMcTimoney Chiropractic provide a more certain route to optimum health.

Your spinal column is made up of 24 vertebrae, the sacrum and the coccyx. This arrangement houses the spinal cord through which nerve information is transmitted to and from the rest of your body. If there is misalignment of the spine then one or more nerves may become trapped or stretched and the vital massages become distorted.

Therefore, a symptom in one area of the body may actually originate from an entirely different location. McTimoney emphasized that the person should be assessed as a whole at every treatment and not as a symptom in isolation.

This whole-body approach and use of gentle adjustment has become known as the trade mark of McTimoney Chiropractic.

The key to the success of this approach is the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which moves are performed.

What does a treatment involve?

A full history is taken regarding your general health as well as details of your symptoms. You will under go a thorough examination of all your joints, literally from head to toe, and under take further clinical assessment that might be necessary to determine that it is safe to treat you.

McTimoney Chiropractors develop a finely tuned sense of touch, enabling them to identify misalignments of the vertebrae and other bones. Upon finding a problem, your chiropractor will use one of a number of light, swift and dexterous techniques, characteristic of McTimoney, to adjust individual bones as required.

If your chiropractor discovers or suspects a problem, which requires medical investigation you will be referred to your GP. Wherever possible, your therapist works in co-operation with your GP and, with your permission, will often write to inform them of your treatment.
